Creativity Knows No Bounds

Carla is a self-taught artist from the Chicagoland Area with no formal training. One day She picked up a paint brush and began her journey. It felt natural to her and she has learned a lot hands on throughout the years with much more still to always learn.  Carla is an acrylic and mix media artist with no set style.  One of her influences in life is Bruce Lee.  The basis of Jeet Kun Do is "no set style". Bruce took different aspects of every different form of martial arts and incorporated them into his art form. Carla tries to achieve the same concept within her own art.

Many people and events in her life have influenced her work. Frida Kahlo is one of her favorite artists.  Picasso, Botticelli, Pollock, Goya, Van Gogh, Modigliani, and Matisse are just a few other influences and artists she enjoys. All Artists to her are some type of influence. She loves to learn about new artists and explore the masters as well as modern/contemporary artists.

Carla has been featured in two anthology books of artists for OvationTV.com.  You can see previews to these books located on the LINKS/PURCHASING page. She has just recently had her first gallery exhibit at the Morpho Gallery in Chicago, IL from March 5th through March 26th, 2010.  Currently, she has five paintings hanging at Global Coffee in Chicago, IL.  The paintings will be exhibited from March 2010 through June 2010. See EXHIBITED page for more information.  Carla is also working on several other artist calls and opportunities to exhibit her wide range of work.  So please check back often for display locations and dates.  She is also hoping to achieve custom commissioned pieces and a wall or large canvas mural for interested parties.

From the mouth of the artist herself, "True beauty is in the eye of the beholder as well all know.  My idea of beauty maybe much different than yours but I hope as artists and creative people we try our best to keep open minds. It doesn’t matter if you are an artist, writer, musician, dancer, filmmaker or just a creative being; keep being inspired and inspiring."

"I paint my own reality. The only thing I know is that I paint because I need to, and I paint whatever passes through my head without any other consideration."

~Frida Kahlo

"Every good painter paints what he is."

~Jackson Pollock

Artist Statement

My art came to me in my late teens.  I always dabbled a little in drawing.  I felt I was not very good at it.  I found that a paint brush flows easier than a pencil.  There is more depth you can explore with a brush.  Pencils are too precise.  Brushes allow the imperfections to become a work of beauty and art.  I do however sketch out paintings still from time to time, this allows me to get my idea down.  My art comes from my heart, my feelings, my thoughts, and inspiration.  Art is my passion and I hope that it shines through in my pieces.  My favorite part about my art is the freedom of expression and color.

“If you always put limit on everything you do, physical or anything else. It will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them.”

~ Bruce Lee
